When organizing product ideas and CAD drafts for patent review, keep the original materials you received, review copies, and revision decisions separate. The key is to connect material versions with the document’s revision history so the next reviewer can see which materials informed each wording change.
Keep received originals separate from review copies
Retain the initial idea description and CAD drafts as reference originals, and use review copies to add explanations or annotations. We recommend including the material name, date received, and version in file names or a materials list, and identifying which file serves as the basis for the current review.
Patenty’s invention material upload guide lists formats including PDF, Word, PowerPoint, HWP, images, and Markdown. Prepare PDF or image copies of CAD drafts that clearly show the geometry and reference signs under review, and separately record how they correspond to the original CAD files. When consulting CADlingo as related reading, also distinguish the materials actually used in the review from supplementary references in your records.
Record proposed revisions and decisions to apply them separately
Mark components that need verification and questions on the review copy, and record the wording before and after each change, along with the reason, in the patent specification’s revision history. For example, if a proposal is to align a part name in a CAD draft with the terminology in the specification, record the drawing version consulted and the relevant reference sign. Keep unverified descriptions separate from confirmed details of the invention.
In Patenty, you can compare the wording before and after an AI-proposed change and choose whether to apply it. You can also lock wording you want to retain. Patenty also supports comparing saved document versions and restoring earlier versions. Recording a wording proposal separately from the reviewer’s decision to apply it makes the basis for the next review clear.
Hand over document versions together with the CAD materials list
For handover, organize the source materials used as the basis for review, the current specification version, applied revisions, and outstanding questions together. Patenty describes features for viewing changes by author and review decisions, and downloading work records. However, its current audit record package covers specifications, claims, and review decisions; it does not include records of drawings, responses to office actions, or prior art searches. Prepare a separate list of CAD drafts and related copies.
Finally, cross-check which source materials and CAD versions the current specification references. If a CAD draft changes later, you can continue by adding the new materials and recording whether those changes have been reflected in the specification. Details on document comparison and the scope of available records are provided in the Patenty feature guide.
