Before reviewing patent materials with AI, organize the source documents that will serve as your reference, the scope of the review, and the records to keep after revisions. Group invention materials, claims, and specifications by case, and distinguish AI suggestions from the revisions the user chooses to adopt. This makes it clearer what to check in the next review.

Distinguish source documents from documents under review

Gather materials that explain the invention’s technical details and essential features, and identify which version of the claims or specification you will review. Keeping the source documents as reference materials and identifying the documents to be revised lets you check revised wording against the invention’s details.

You can upload PDF, Word, PowerPoint, HWP (.hwp), images, Markdown (.md), and other files as invention materials for a new project in Patenty. Convert HWPX or password-protected documents to PDF or DOCX before uploading. It is also helpful to keep converted copies clearly distinguished from the original materials.

Define the review scope and the wording to retain

Instead of requesting a general rewrite, specify what you want checked and how you want it revised. For example, decide whether to review terminology, reference signs, or claim consistency, and identify the relevant sections. Patenty analyzes the specification and related materials and prepares proposed revisions according to the requested review and revision directions.

Also identify key wording to retain in advance. Patenty lets you compare text before and after changes and lock wording you want to keep. If you are also reviewing prior art documents, check the original documents you have obtained and the basis for citations alongside the comparison results. Review the search scope and which materials have been obtained as well.

Keep proposed revisions and review decisions together

Compare the original and revised wording before choosing which AI suggestions to apply. In the revision record, it is helpful to note which review comments were addressed alongside the changed sentences. Patenty supports comparing saved versions, restoring previous versions, and checking changes by author and review decisions, so the next reviewer can examine both the document and the decision-making process.

When downloading records for storage, check what is included. According to Patenty’s work history guide, the current audit record package provides records of specifications, claims, and review decisions in a ZIP containing a PDF report and a record file for verification. It does not include records of drawings, responses to grounds for rejection, or prior art searches, so organize those materials separately.
